If you swing by during the day you’ll get to see all the adorable little hatchlings or the older and wiser turtles doing their thing in the tanks. But the real fun is being part of the release! It goes down almost every day around sunset. The staff will pick out the ones fit for release, put them in little buckets and hand them to you. Where you can see five species of turtles; Green turtles, Hawksbill turtle, Loggerhead turtles, Leatherback turtles, and Olive turtles.
Madhu River Boat Safari
Madhu Ganga, known in ancient text as Weligannga(Sand river) is located in the coastal town of Balapitiya and is considered the last remaining tract of pristine mangrove forest in Srilanka after Bentota. A virgin habitat constituting a coastal wetland mangrove ecosystem and the fact that it’s bio-locked; meaning that it’s protected from outside influence to its native aquatic plants and animals. It has a high ecological and biological significance, also on record for being home to over 300 plant species from 95 families and 250+ vertebrate families. The main reason for the existence of the Madhu River is the tides of the area.
